FLATTBUSH - PORK BARREL VIDEO

Flattbush have a new video out for the song 'Pork Barrel'. The video which can be viewed below, is a mixture of the band playing live at an underground club in LA called The Church Of FUN now shut down and footage of 'pork barrel' demonstrations in the Philippines.
Vocalist Enrico Maniago explains the meaning of 'Pork Barrel'

Before supertyphoon Haiyan hit, Philippine politics was at the height of the issue of the "pork barrel" scam. Each congressional representative and senator are allocated government funds called "pork barrel" for use at their discretion to benefit their constituents. However, whistleblowers confirmed that billions from this fund are being pocketed by legislators, middlemen such as "non-governmental organizations," and local government agencies.
The country has always been in a state of calamity with the endless corruption and the destructive system of government. Whistleblowers and anyone who expose and oppose their backward policies are always getting incarcerated or assassinated; then these issues die out in the long-winded process of the non-existent "justice" system. When the recent earthquake and the subsequent typhoon came, the country was already in shambles. The government policy of opening the country to big foreign corporations such as logging and mining companies mostly owned by the U.S., exploits the Filipino people's natural resources, mutilates the environment, and speeds up global warming. However, the situation was made worse by the deaths of thousands of people and destruction of entire communities. The aftermath of Haiyan shook the world and made the Philippines the center of international attention. But even under the scrutiny of other countries, the corrupt political dynasties comprised of bureaucrat capitalists, big bougeois comprador and landlords continue with their criminal activities to save their luxurious position in power. The current President himself, Benigno Simeon (BS) Aquino Jr, is the king and the protectors of these plunderers. He downplays the effects of the typhoon and tries to hide the root cause of the severe devastation. He throws the blame for the ridiculously inefficient, or, more accurately, for the absence of disaster response on the part of the government, for someone else to catch. Other politicians plaster their faces on bags of relief goods hoping to ensure another term in office. But whatever criticisms they take from others now will eventually be more than compensated for by the billions of dollars of aid from which they will pad their pockets once again.
Although the issue of "pork barrel" has been dampened by the howling winds of typhoon Haiyan, it still deserves to be scrutinized, criticized, exposed and opposed. It is connected with the lack of government preparedness and response to the natural disaster that happened. It is connected with the overall social, political, and economic situation in the Philippines. And it is what Flattbush has tried to mirror in our new song, "Pork Barrel."
