Susan Boyle Palm reading predicts collaboration with Mike Patton

A birthday palm reading for Susan Boyle has tipped the singer to duet with Mike Patton.
Palm reader Harrison Richards has looked into SuBo’s future for Take A Break’s Fate & Fortune magazine.
Her reading says: ‘Susan, who last December revealed she has Asperger Syndrome, faced yet more woe with her claims the millions she’s made from album sales have torn her family apart.
‘Luckily, her long, deep destiny line denotes a real fighting spirit, while a branching life line suggests that numerous life-changing events are just round the corner.
‘Susan’s palm also reveals a quirky and playful side that we’re yet to see.
‘This will lead to a surprise collaboration with musician Mike Patton from the rock band Faith No More, and a move towards a more experimental sound.’

Ha, and as one commenter said on Facebook, he got Norah Jones to say Motherfucker, so who knows what he could get her to say hehe.

Los Angeles, CA March 18, 2014.- Marcelo Tijerina, known internationally as Mexican Dubwiser, is back, presenting an electrifying new single: "Bad Behavior", belonging to his second studio recording that will be released on April 29, entitled Electric City. "Bad Behavior" is a track that confirms the evolution of the sound that can be easily identified as Mexican Dubwiser's own style. It features great guests, such as Myron Glasper, Ulises Lozano (Kinky), Billy Gould (Faith No More), Cesar Pliego & Omar Gongora.

Born in Monterrey, Mexico, and residing in Los Angeles, CA, Marcelo Tijerina keeps his post-futuristic sound on his new album Electric City, which was produced by Ulises Lozano and Marcelo himself. The record will be edited simultaneously in the United States and Canada by Kool Arrow  Records and Kin Kon Records, and in Mexico by the Terricolas Imbéciles label.

His debut album Revolution Radio, generated a significant interest on the radio, in clubs and the pres son both sides of the border. It earned excellent reviews and made the chart of New World Music of CMJ magazine (College Music Journal) as one of the 10 most played records on college radios.

People who are familiarized with contemporary Latin music may recognize some excellent collaboration by guest musicians on Revolution Radio. In the case of Electric City, some of them have returned and new ones have come on board. Among them, El Gran Silencio, Randy Ebright of Molotov, Francisco Javier, vocalist of the legendary band Tropical Panama, together with Pato Machete, Celso Piña, Ulises Lozano and other members of KINKY, Serko Fuentes. Some of the best MCs of the music scene around Los Angeles also stand out, such as Rocky Dawuni, a Reggae artist from Ghana, Africa, the vocalist of Soul Myron Glasper from the Myron & E (Stone Throws Rec) band, and the Hip Hop MC Longevity y Treasure Don, born in Jamaica and living in New York, among many other excellent collaborations.

The Electric City tour will kick off on March 20 with several shows in California, and will take Mexican Dubwiser on a new path with several confirmed concerts in Europe, including one of the world's biggest music festivals: the Glastonbury Fest. The group's debut in Europe includes other performances in Spain and France with more shows to be confirmed.

The album release party with special guests will take place in Los Angeles, California, on March 21 at the Blu Monkey. During this year, Mexican Dubwiser will perform along with the brand Novation/Focusrite, using some of their equipment for live shows and major DJ set.

KFAD 19 Years

On this day 1995 FNM released their fifth studio album...

KING FOR A DAY FOOL FOR A LIFETIME.

King For A Day ... Fool For A Lifetime Press Kit

We (Faith No More) have a new album coming out called KFADFFAL and, as the publicity machine lurches into like, it's new biography time again. This time, however, we've done it together.....the band put down what they wanted to say....(and what they could remember!) and they, the bastard record company, went over it again casting aside our modesty and adding lots of parentheses.
Hi! Thanks for your interest. We're Faith No More and we've just completed a new record. It's called KFADFFAL and we recorded it in a small town in upstate NY in October and November of 1994 with Andy Wallace (Soul Asylum, Slayer, Nirvana, etc.) and we're really proud of these 14 songs. (For the first time ever FNM have managed to write more songs than they needed for an album and still have a few songs up their sleeve; additionally they've recorded some remarkable cover versions that will be unveiled as single b-sides in the near future.) Hopefully they are an accurate representation of where we are at.

Firstly we've got a new guitar player. We figured that it was just time for a change and, instead of breaking up, we found another guitar player. Trey Spruance played guitar on KFADFFAL and had an excellent ear for what we wanted to do. (Trey also plays guitar in the band Mr. Bungle.) Ultimately we needed to make ourselves happy and our new record has accomplished this for the time being.

Historically speaking, you probably all know that Chuck Mosely isn't in the band anymore, but that's not really new. We made two records with Chuck back in '85 and '87 (We Care A Lot on Mordam Records and Introduce Yourself on Slash.) He worked with us for a while but we outgrew each other. However, a lot of people got to hear We Care A Lot. We toured and toured in shitty conditions the way that bands do, basically making a name for ourselves. We built up a strong following, said goodbye to Chuck, met Mike Patton and made The Real Thing (released in 1989.) It was more popular than anything we'd done before and sold really well. (The Real Thing went on to become a platinum album in the USA and Brazil, and acheived gold status all over Europe including the UK and Germany.) We were on MTV and we toured endlessly for close to two years. (During this period, the band toured the USA with Metallica, Voivod, Soundgarden, and Billy Idol. They did three headline tours of the UK and Europe and toured South America and Japan, as well as appearing at many major festivals, including the headline slot at the Reading Festival in the UK, and the Rock and Rio Festival in Brazil.)

Suddenly everything was kind of different; we had all worked incredibly hard to get where we were, but it was still totally shocking when it happened. We took some time off to take stock and made an uncompromising and ultimately successful record called Angel Dust (released in 1992); again it reflected where we were at the time and we were very proud of it and still are. (In Europe alone, Angel Dust went on to attain gold status in Germany, UK, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, Italy, and Austria.)

The cycle began again.....we toured heavily, our live show being as important to us as our records. We did interviews, made videos, made mistakes, made a lot of friends and fans, and ultimately did what was necessary. (FNM played all over the world on their Angel Dust tour.)

Then we took more time off, parted company with Jim Martin (for the record, we don't really know what happened to Jim; none of the band, to our knowledge, has had any contact with him since the split.) and auditioned for a new guitarist before   on Trey in time to start recording KFAD. But being in a band, particularly our band, takes a lot of time and commitment and it turned out that Trey wasn't ready for all that.

Enter Dean Menta, our new guitarist, and he'll be touring and hopefully making records with us (Dean was Roddy's keyboard tech on the Angel Dust tour; he plays in a band called Duh, and writes soundtracks for CD-Rom games, among them the popular game "Loadstar.") He's a good friend and an excellent guitar player who we've known for a long time, and now this latest line-up seems exceptionally strong.

So that's the deal; if you like the record (and we hope you do) try to come and see us....we'll be playing everywhere; but most of all, thanks for your interest.

-Faith No More

KFAD 19!!!!!

For those not lucky enough to have a copy of the KFAD 7" album box set. What follows is the album appraisal written on the insert by Phil Alexander. Phil was editor at Kerrang! in 1995 but is now chief editor of Mojo magazine. Enjoy.

It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it...
I mean, where do you start when it comes to putting together a few words of appreciation for Faith No More?
Hmmm...
It's a question that's rattled around my pea brain for a matter of minutes now. It's got me thinking to the first time I managed to wrap my ears around the Faith No More sound. That was almost a decade ago. The fact alone makes it seen weird. But, hey, this isn't about getting all doe eyed and nostalgic over 10 years of aural abuse and discord. Nope, this is about the here and now. This is about "King For A Day...Fool For A Lifetime", an album which is the culmination of all those years of tense, nervous earache.

As an album "King..." Is the latest in a long line of intriguing pieces of ear candy served up without sweetener. It's full of the chewy kind of venom that has kept FNM a challenging concern. Talk to any members of the band and they'll tell you about the making of this album at great length with either a smile or a grimace...depending on which day you catch em on.
In fact, the mini interviews with each band member presented here should give you, the faithful FNM junkie, a good idea of exactly how this right royal slice of More-some muzak was conceived. What you get, along with this natty packaging and neat slithers of plastic, is a set of true stories told by Billy, Mike B, Roddy, Mike P and new kid Dean The Guitar Guy. None of the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

For the "why's" and "wherefores", "King..." speaks for itself. Since you've seen fit to pick up this version of the latest FNM instalment, you already know exactly what I'm taking about. You already dig Faith No More's ability to bob and weave between musical styles and aggressive inflections.
Whether it's the guitar driven work outs of 'Get Out', the spazzed out Mike Patton shit-stirring overload of 'Cuckoo For Caca', the stormy melancholy of 'Take This Bottle', or the disconcerting jazz slink of 'Evidence' (hey George Benson, eat your heart out), you know what FNM are all about.
Yes "King..." is another piece of taught drama that refuses to revel in the American Dream. If anything we're dealing with the American Nightmare here. The kind of mess that US Pres Bill Clinton couldn't mop up with all the Andrex in the world.

Look into this box a little deeper abs you'll find a bunch of extra "B" - side -only cuts that show off FNM's musical schizoid personality even further. I mean, how many other bands do you know that could turn their hand to calmly crooned versions of Bee Gee's cuts like 'I Started A Joke' or Al Martino's 'Spanish Eyes' before plunging the full-on punk roar of 'I Wanna Fuck Myself' . "King...", y'see, will make you feel great on a good day, and drive you to the edge when you're feeling bad.
"King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime"? Somehow the title sums it all up. Like all great records, it leaves you beautifully charred.

Anne's Song

On this day in 1988....
Faith No More's second single ANNE'S SONG was released.
'Anne's song was quite simply, a pep talk that I got from my friend Anne, when I was down in the dumps about not getting along, or seeing eye to eye with my band mates at the time. It's also an introduction to all of our friends and family in New York, an epiphany about making the best of any situation, and appreciating what you have. I could be wrong, but I think that if I had applied the advice to my situation better at the time, things might have turned out different, but, no regrets, except for the reaction that those particular lyrics spawned at the time, which, unfortunately the details of which, I also have to save for the book, sorry to say...' -Chuck Mosley and the VUA 2013

In a Q&A we hosted with Chuck last year he let us into a little secret about the ANNE'S SONG video....
'Anne's Song video.....actually, it was Jim Martin and James Hetfield doing the jabbing, don't remember, but I'm assuming it was their idea, since they were the ones doing it. Everyone wanted a chance to jab me, especially in those days....i was obnoxious.'

Friend of our blog Anne who was immortalised in Faith No More lyrics has kindly written this for us to post about the song dedicated to her and her friends.

'When I think of Anne's Song, I never really hear the song . I lived the song. I think about the nite of the filming of our NYC part of the Anne's Song video, here in this apartment, where I still reside today, and write this from my iphone. I think about all my friends and family together, crowded around and wildly dancing to the Village Drums calypso song " In The Groove", because that's the song we used to dance in the video to instead of Anne's Song! Poor Tamra , and Lisa , working around Chuck's thick NY posse. But when I hear that song, all I do is see that video, and see my friends, and see my beautiful cousin and sister, both who have passed away since then. My sister's birthday is today. But everyone else is alive and doing the best they can, and I love them all, and Chuck for making it happen. Now when I listen to Chuck, it's VUA, and it's Come Around and it's Bob Forest.....and I like to think of Bob Forest as the sequel to Anne's Song.'

Thanks Anne.

Hey guys, hopefully you are all keeping well!! Firstly I must apologise for being a bit quiet on here lately, but things have been quite hectic at this end lately, hopefully I will be around here a lot more from now on!

Now, with no new FNM news to report now is a good time to reflect on the past...17 years ago on this day Faith No More released the first single from Album Of The Year.

"The bulk of that song was written the first week. We arranged it here, and then we sent Patton a tape. He was in Italy, but he came up with the lyrics and the singing right away. It was one of those songs that just clicked -- one of those songs that we do most naturally. That's our sound."Billy Gould

22 years of MIDLIFE CRISIS!!

Mike Patton on the lyrics -

'The song is based on a lot of observation and a lot of speculation. But in sort of a pointed way its kind of about Madonna...I think it was a particular time where I was being bombarded with her image on TV and in magazines and her whole schtick kind of speaks to me in that way...like she's going through some sort of problem. It seems she's getting a bit desperate.'

Billy Gould on the writing process -

'Everybody's responsible for this one. It was a keyboard part that started it....it was a period of time when everyone was waiting for us to come up with another record and promising us the world. All we had to do is what we do, but the way they saw we were a little defiant, which I think the lyrics reflect in a way. From my position I wanted to do a song that had only one note to the whole thing, but would still be a song. So I wanted it to have one bass part that never changed. It wasn't until we recorded it that our producer saw where I was trying to go, but at the time it seemed like shooting yourself in the foot y'know'

Meanwhile here is what some of the media circus have to say...

Chuck Mosley on the possibility of new FNM material

Chuck Mosley talks to the co-author of his book Doug Esper about his reaction the possibility of new Faith No More material.
Over to Doug and Chuck...

The interwebs have been buzzing ever since, earlier in the week, Faith No More started a twitter account, and stated, “The reunion thing was fun, but now it’s time to get a little creative.” Various sites have cobbled together articles speculating that the band is hinting at a new album or at least some new songs to play at the 2 dates announced, thus far, in July. Since I couldn’t sleep anyway, due to the excitement caused by that possibility, I decided to chat with Chuck Mosley, former frontman for Faith No More, and get his thoughts on the matter:
Douglas Esper: Last night Faith No More put up a Twitter account and teased the possibility of new music and new tour dates.
Chuck Mosley: They should have me sing on at least one or two songs on the album.
Doug: I agree 100%. What would you bring to the table this time around?
Chuck: I would (expletive) wail on those tracks and make people wonder why they ever got rid of me. (chuckles) But seriously, I think me and Mike (Patton) could complement each other really well on a song.
Doug: So, let’s say you couldn’t be on the album for whatever reason, but they asked you to come to the studio to produce. What advice would you give them before they recorded their first new music in over 15 years?
Chuck: On one hand, I would say to know what’s out there and be better than all of that, but on the other hand I would say don’t pay attention to whatever is out there and do whatever it is you want. Just make sure to take it to the next level. To tell you the truth, I don’t even know what constitutes a good rock album these days. Who is around anymore?
Doug: Pfft, I have two kids, so I know Elmo, Thomas the choo-choo, and My Little Pony…Maybe a little heavy for rock, but there’s Mastodon, Baroness, or maybe Queens of the Stone Age…
Chuck: Foo Fighters.
Doug: Those bands have been around for several years and are not newer, and really, Faith No More was never just a rock band.
Chuck: It makes me wonder what I’m going to do next. I have ideas, but sometimes I feel like everything is dated. I feel out of touch with all the pop stuff that is out there, besides a few bands here and there. I enjoyed playing with Billy’s band (The Talking Book) down in Chile last summer, but that’s not rock either. The bands I’ve seen lately and they are doing stuff that’s been done for 20 years. I would say to Faith No More to record an album that will inspire another 1,000 imitators.

Look for a full length feature with Chuck here at Faithnomoreblog.com in June! And, of course, check out chuckmosley.bandcamp.com for digital downloads of his latest music. And just to make you jealous, i added a photo of the original poster artwork for the reunion show in Philly back in 2010 :)

The Real Thing Month

Hey guys, how are we all doing?
So as some of you may have noticed (if you are viewing this page on a laptop/PC) the banner at the top has changed, and all this month we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of FNM's breakthrough album 'The Real Thing'.
To kick things off, long time fan of the band and author of the FNM and Mr Bungle companion Greg Prato has written us a piece on what that album means to him....

'The Real Thing' will always be a special album for me, because like many rock n' roll fans, it was the first Faith No More album I ever heard and purchased. I have to thank one of my cousins for suggesting that I give the band and album a listen, and take a break from all the same-sounding heavy metal I was subjecting my earholes to at the time. Upon first listen, Mr. Patton's vocals just didn't do it for me (as he sang in a very nasally voice). But after further spins, I was severely hooked.

And I can pinpoint an exact date/location as one of the most important/influential musical events that occurred in my life - L'Amour in Brooklyn, NY, on Saturday, March 17, 1990, when FNM, Soundgarden, and Voivod shared a bill. Up until that point, I had only attended big-time arena shows, and this was my first club show I witnessed as a spectator.

Needless to say, the performance was unlike anything I had witnessed up until then, and remains one of the best rock shows I've ever attended, and immediately made FNM and Soundgarden two of my favorite bands - something that has remained intact to this day (I get more into the specifics of this show - as well as 2 other 'TRT' era shows I attended - in my book).

But...back to 'The Real Thing.' It quickly became my most-listened to album of the year, and helped steer me away from straight ahead metal and more towards bands that were injecting their own style/personality into their music - Chili Peppers, Primus, Fishbone, etc.

Although I can't say that 'TRT' has aged very well (again, it's a shame that Mr. Patton sang nasally throughout, as we all know he's one of the most talented/versatile singers on the planet) nor is it my fav all-time FNM recording (I'd go with 'Angel Dust' as numero uno, with both 'King for a Day' and 'Introduce Yourself' tied together as a close second). But at the time, it was such a breath of fresh air from the type of predictable metal that MTV and radio was spinning.

And lastly, something that I'd like to mention - there is no denying that Nirvana's 'Nevermind' totally changed the rock music landscape. But there were several recordings that helped pave the way beforehand - Living Colour's 'Vivid,' the Chili Peppers''Mother's Milk,' Jane's Addiction's 'Ritual de lo Habitual,' Sonic Youth's 'Goo,' Primus''Sailing the Seas of Cheese,' and of course, Faith No More's 'The Real Thing.'

Thank you Faith No More and 'The Real Thing,' for helping broaden my music listening tastes.

Thanks Greg.

The Real Thing Month...Day 2 Focus On The Song.

From Out Of Nowhere – Original release 30th August 1989……

At the age of thirteen I had no taste in music. I owned three albums: ‘The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ soundtrack, Michael Jackson ‘Bad’ and Bon Jovi ‘Slippery When Wet’. Music wasn't really a passion for me, my Star Wars figure collection and my BMX were, then I was introduced to GnR's 'Appetite For Destruction' I can't remember how or why it came to be in my possession I just remember putting in my twin tape deck and….. 'hee hee hee ' Axl Rose swore…a lot!!!
My elder brother, as older brothers do, regularly tried to get me to listen to his music such as Black Sabbath, Bowie and Motörhead but, as younger brothers do, I refused to listen to that old rubbish (of course he had pretty good taste). One day he handed me a tape whilst I was listening to GnR and said, ‘If you listen to that crap you'll probably like this’!! Although I think he was secretly happy I wasn't listening to Pet Shop Boys or Madonna I still believe this was his sneaky way of getting me to listen to a Black Sabbath song....It was ‘The Real Thing’. I took the tape with a half-hearted shrug and banished him from my room for the 1000th time!

I remember thinking if my brother didn't like this I probably would so I put it in deck B and pressed play.....
First song….. ‘From Out Of Nowhere’ scribbled in blue biro on the folded card........Music was now a passion and it began at the moment I heard this song for the first time!! I now had taste....

I mean come on what a f**king tune!!! The rabbit punch in the guts intro rolling relentlessly with the funk of Bill’s bass melody through to the verse. Roddy’s poptastic keyboard riff, light and powerful always adding another dimension to the music here is the ultimate example. One of those rare occasions when Mike Bordin’s drums are functional rather than expressional, and by that I mean he can lay down a wicked rock beat with only a hint of his trademark tribal rhythms. Jim Martin’s guitar is fierce, thrashy and full of energy. And of course Mike Patton’s super cool adolescent vocals....

As for the meaning of the song Patton wrote all the words to this album in a few weeks before the recording. He freely admits that the words to this song in particular were just what he thought a good rock song should be.

Mike Patton, 1990: ‘That song is one of the first lyrics I wrote, in a day I think. It’s what I thought rock music should be at the time.’

FNM always seem to start their albums with this aural assault on the listener: ‘Introduce Yourself’ has 'Faster Disco', ‘Angel Dust’ 'Land of Sunshine', 'King For A Day’ ‘Get Out' and ‘Album Of The Year’ ‘Collision’. This is their ultimate album and set opener, perfect for the job. Fast, bold in your face and to the point....

Similar to ‘Epic’ this was the song that introduced many lifetime fans to FNM, their first outing as the all new Patton fronted alt rock metal funksters!!!

It didn't get the success of its follow up single 'Epic', and was re-issued on July 2nd 1990 on picture disc and as a limited edition gatefold to coincide with their UK tour. The picture disc featured an extended remix of the song which highlighted the various seperate instrument parts beautifully.

The video directed by Doug Freel is reported to be parody of 'hair metal' bands of the time. Metal Forces described Patton as doing a 'wonderfully bad impression of Dave lee Roth' .There are two versions of the video the differences outlined here by Wikipedia,

'There are two very different versions of this video. When you play both versions next to each other you will find that some shots are different. Some of the videos found on the internet are the 'second version' videos.
The first version features Mike Patton in camouflage shorts, a black undershirt, and sunglasses. Words come across a few times during the video on the screen. And there are a few shots of exteriors at the beginning and end.

In the second version Patton is wearing spandex shorts and a black and blue coat. Billy Gould is using a different bass, and there are many more exterior shots, as well as more words going across the screen. Only a few shots are kept from the first version, being some of the shots of Mike Bordin. This latter version was used on the video releases.'

I remember reading a review, which unfortunately I cannot find to quote, that reported that Patton was doing his best to copy the style of Anthony Kiedes, I won't go into the 'feud' here but it seems maybe Mike was poking fun at the RHCP singer here a bit as well, if comparisons are to be drawn. We know as fans that this wasn't Patton's usual stage persona.

During the making of the video Patton severely damaged his hand requiring microsurgery.

The band dropped the song from their set in 1992 during the touring of 'Angel Dust', but it made a welcome return and the band played it most recently on their European tour.

Mike Bordin: 'We preferred to play Land of Sunshine and both those songs had the same feel. You play a song for so long and it gets boring, there’s no passion left. I’m sure we will play that one again if we ever do a greatest hits tour'

The song stands today as as all time favourite of many fans, and the song that started their love affair with Faith No More. It reminds us of a more innocent time in the band's history before shit-eating, piss drinking, bickering, synacism and a string of guitar players!!

Jim :)
